All types of concrete pavers and tiles covered
There are three types of sealants available.
Cemix Clear Waterproofer – suitable
for all types of genuine
urban paving. This is a clear solvent based penetrating
sealer, to prevent moisture from entering the paver surface
but allows the paver to ‘breathe’. It helps to
prevent efflourscence from forming on the surface of the pavers.
The sealant normally dries clear and is mostly unnoticeable.
Cemix Cemseal – recommended for the
smooth types
of pavers.
This is a penetrating sealant that will dry to a low gloss
sheen. It will change the look of the paver slightly in colour
and intensity. It helps prevent efflourscence.
Cemix Drive Seal – best suited to
sandstone
paving as the ‘Driveseal’ sealant can make
the smooth pavers slippery.
This is a clear thermoplastic acrylic solution to protect
and highlight the colour and texture of the pavers. It will
change the look of the paver and produces a high gloss coating.
Please note
It is recommended that the pavers are sealed with either Cemseal
or Driveseal to protect them from the effect of weathering.
The sealants will last between 2 and 3 years depending on
usage and installation positions.
Should you decide to seal the pavers directly off the pallet,
ensure the sealant does not travel down the sides of the paver
if you intend to grout the joints, as the mortar for grouting
needs to adhere to an uncontaminated concrete surface on the
sides.
If you are using a polymer jointing sand ie, Pavelock, then
you need not worry about sealant creeping down the sides.
If the pavers are sealed after installation, they may require
a wash down with Hydrochloric Acid (spirits of salts) also
available at Placemakers, 15 parts water to 1 part hydro.
Ensure the pavers are damp before applying the solution and
thoroughly wash down the paver afterwards.
The pavers must be completely dry and showing no signs of
dampness before the sealant is applied otherwise a cloudy
and milky effect may occur.
Always follow the instructions on the label.
Always seal one paver the with desired number of coats,
before applying sealant to the whole area, to check the results.
